Known for their expressive eyes, silky coat and friendly nature, Cavaliers are intelligent, adaptable and devoted family companions.

Whether you are researching the breed for the first time, considering adding a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to your family, or already share your life with one of these beautiful dogs, understanding the breed’s history, breed standard, temperament and care requirements is essential.

History

The history of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dates back several centuries and is closely linked to British royalty and European nobility. The breed became particularly associated with King Charles II of England during the 1600s. Historical accounts describe the King as rarely being seen without his beloved spaniels, leading to the breed becoming widely recognised as the “King Charles Spaniel.”
